[100 Thieves](https://stacked.gg/lol/team/100/stats) pulled off an upset Sunday afternoon as they took down [Team Liquid](https://stacked.gg/lol/team/tl/stats) on Day 3 of the Lock In tournament. The tournament has already provided some great moments, and this game was jammed full of them thanks to some great play from Can “[Closer](https://stacked.gg/player/closer/stats)” Çelik and Tanner “[Damonte](https://stacked.gg/player/damonte/stats)” Damonte clutching out the win. 

Team Liquid has generally been regarded as either the first or second ranked LCS team heading into the 2021 season, but 100 Thieves pulled of the upset through nailing the drafting phase. With their B1 pick, 100 Thieves drafted Olaf, who went unbanned by both sides in opening ban phase. Pairing Closer’s Olaf with Damonte’s Galio, who they drafted second, meant 100T’s team comp relied on Galio taunts into Olaf running down the opponents which is precisely what happened.

Team Liquid responded to the opening Olaf pick by going Lillia/Samira, and then responded to Galio by putting Jensen on Cassiopeia. This ended up working out poorly as Olaf Ragnarok’d any time he was put to sleep by Lillia’s ultimate, while building Goredrinker allowed Olaf to stay on the backline of Cassio/Samira without any problem. 

The game opened up with an immediate First Blood for [Tactical](https://stacked.gg/player/tactical/stats) as [CoreJJ](https://stacked.gg/player/corejj/stats) pulled off the Leona level one stun. 100 Thieves’ ADC [FBI](https://stacked.gg/player/fbi/stats) played overzealously on Aphelios, attempting to trade with a Lulu support who did not have Polymorph ready. Credit to 100 Thieves’ support [huhi](https://stacked.gg/player/huhi/stats) for taking the early misplay on the chin and playing aggressively the rest of the game, roaming with Olaf and making some crucial plays.

TL’s mid-laner [Jensen](https://stacked.gg/player/jensen/stats) had himself a game to forget. In an early 3v2 bot dive onto TL, Jensen Teleported in, flashing for a kill and dying at the hands of Closer’s Olaf. His low mobility from going Conquerer over Phase Rush for his rune page ended up costing him. 

The sloppy play continued during another skirmish in the bot river only a few minutes later. Rather than saving their ultimates for when Olaf’s Ragnarok was in cooldown, Lillia/Cassiopeia failed to kite Olaf and opted to fight him while Ragnarok was active. TL’s [Armao](https://stacked.gg/player/armao/stats) and Jensen didn’t respect the Olaf ultimate paired with Lulu’s shields, and Jensen was caught out of position yet again. There was also a lack of anti-healing items on Cassiopeia/Lillia/Samira, which made fighting Olaf that much harder. By the 9 minute mark, Jensen had died three times to the hands of Olaf.

Closer made a handful of decision’s that put his team in a position to win, including diving TL’s bot lane 3v2 as they successfully juggled turret aggro and secured the 1-for-2 trade. While Alphari handled business up top, 100T made sure this game was ultimately won and lost in the botlane.

This match highlighted the power of Goredrinker Olaf in the current meta, as many team comps rely on chain CC to win team fights while Olaf’s strength is in negating these effects and healing mid-team fight with this item active. Similarly, 100T showcased how effective it can be to pair Olaf with an enchanter support like Lulu. As the season continues, Olaf will likely continue to terrorize teams when not banned unless teams learn to properly kite The Berserker.

Without detracting from a phenomenal 100T performance, Team Liquid fans can chalk these misplays up to early season jitters and the lack of their starting jungler, Santorin. If TL can improve their draft phase and continue to mesh as a roster, they are still very much in contention for the top spot – right up there with 100 Thieves.
